| KUALA TERENGGANU, APRIL 30TH , 2012 – The YIM Kids Invent! organised by Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM), with the collaboration of Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) covering 15 states, including Labuan FT, this year landed its foot in Kuala Terengganu on 29th April 2012 with a total turnout of more than 430 primary school children from 70 schools around Kuala Terengganu.
This effort is in line with YIM’s role as one of the implementers of the National Innovation Movement 2012 which was planned to internalise innovation as a way of life and to be practiced by all Malaysians.
The National Innovaton Movement 2012 was announced by the Prime Minister, Y.A.B. Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, in Budget 2012 to carry out several strategic initiatives to promote innovation which has been identified as the enabler to shift the economic value chain to a higher level.
Muhammad Aziph Dato’ Mustapha, Acting Chief Executive Officer of YIM, said that the YIM Kids Invent! workshops are part of the initiatives especially in YIM’s effort to reach the school children. This event was visited by Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Haji Ahmad Bin Said, Chief Minister of Terengganu after he launched another program by YIM, the Jejak Inovasi Terengganu in State Public Library of Terengganu.
“This is made possible by the continued close rapport established between YIM and the Ministry of Education, especially via the PPDs, and we will continue to work closely with them for 14 more similar workshops which will be executed nationwide until end of the year.
“We are hoping to reach a minimum of 5,000 students this year via YIM Kids Invent! Programme,” he added. .
YIM also announced a special YIM Kids Invent! Finale Workshop, which will be organised in Kuala Lumpur in November 2012 in conjunction with the World Innovation Forum, Kuala Lumpur (WIFKL), to conclude all the YIM Kids Invent! workshops that will be executed this year.
“We have selected top three performing students of the YIM “Kids Invent!” Terengganu, and they are Muhammad Farith Izwan B. Muhammad Sobri from SK Pasir Pajang, Kho Jin Jun from SJKC Chung Hwa Wei Sin and Fatin Nur Sabrina Bt. Zulkifli from SK Padang Hiliran. As best performers they get to attend the Finale Workshop in Kuala Lumpur with their parents with all expenses borne by YIM.These students are selected based on a few criteria set by the organizer such as teamwork, leadership, innovative mind and initiatives portrayed during the program.
YIM is an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and is responsible in promoting and inculcating creativity and innovation among Malaysians, especially targeting children and youth, women, rural folks, people with disabilities and non-government organisations.
“YIM is looking forward to its new role in implementing and executing the initiatives under the banner of the National Innovation Movement 2012 – which will help improve the nation’s economy and subsequently enhance the quality of lives of all Malaysians,” concluded Muhammad Aziph.
